Since 2019, we have been working extremely hard to help improve primary education in the Republic of Guinea. The demand for child education support has been far greater than what we can currently offer, leading us to strategically selecting areas with the greatest need.
In addition to Conakry, Dubreka, and Coyah, Kindia is now our new targeted area due to the high rate of school dropouts among girls. Kindia is the fourth largest city in Guinea, located about 137 km northeast of the capital, Conakry, with a population of approximately 200,000.
From our feasibility study, engaging with local authorities, parents, teachers, and young girls, we concluded that the high dropout rate among young girls is due to the same issues faced in other cities we have worked with. These issues include a lack of basic sanitary facilities, insufficient access to sanitary kits, and a lack of education on menstrual health and personal care.
Starting from the 17th of February 2025, we launched an initiative in Kindia to address these challenges. The workshops were incredibly successful, with an impact beyond our expectations and heartfelt feedback from participants. Even better, the 1,500 sanitary kits donated to support young girls were proudly made in Guinea by our talented sewing team based in Dubreka.
Key achievements of the project:
508 young girls trained on menstrual health
1,500 sanitary kits donated
1,006 young boys educated on respecting girls and understanding sexual violence
73 teachers and 166 parents equipped to support girls during their periods
A huge thank you to our partner schools, local authorities in Kindia, Days for Girls UK, Days for Girls International and the British Embassy for their invaluable support in making this project possible.
This is just the beginning, Kindia, we’ll be back with more life changing opportunities for children from underprivileged communities.
